Description

There are just 600 pieces available worldwide of this limited-edition chronograph timepiece, inspired by key moments in Seiko’s timekeeping heritage.

It takes its shape from the original 1964 chronograph stopwatch, its power inspiration from the 1969 Speedtimer, whilst its looks echo the colourways of Seiko’s timekeeping role in the 1972 Winter Olympics.

Becoming official timekeeper for Tokyo’s high profile international sports event in 1964 was a turning point in Seiko’s history. Making precisely accurate professional timing instruments, with no prior experience, resulted in the Seiko Watch Corporation design code of visibility, legibility and functionality.

The next crucial landmark in the history of the chronograph was the creation of the Seiko Speedtimer in 1969, with its vertical clutch and column wheel, it ensured an even more precise measurement of elapsed time. Hand-assembled by Seiko’s skilled watchmakers, this new Speedtimer is powered by Calibre 8R46, which, like the Calibre 6139 used in the original 1969 Speedtimer, incorporates vertical clutch and column wheel mechanisms to ensure the highest possible levels of precision and durability. The escapement is lightweight and strong, thanks to the use of MEMS technology which enhances the stability of the watch’s precision.

The colour scheme of this limited-edition is in black and red to commemorate the 1972 Winter Olympics – the black dial reduces the reflection of light whilst the eye-catching red markers on the indices provide high visibility in any field, with the minute counter subdial at the 9 o’clock position. Concealed stitching on the reverse of the calf leather strap ensure its longevity.

Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ These timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable within extreme or everyday environments for experts, sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
