Inspired by the Seiko Laurel, Japan’s first wrist watch launched in 1913, each dial is truly unique – combining traditional Japanese ‘Takumi’ artisan craftsmanship with Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking skills in an original collection that offers handcrafted beauty, quality and long-lasting performance.
Urushi lacquer from the sap of the Japanese Lacquer tree has been used for centuries as a decoration and has been applied to the dial of the watch using ancient artisan skills. Within this design, the black Urushi lacquering incorporates a gold lacquer technique known as Maki-e, the result is a striking colour combination. Both Urushi and Maki-e require the use of extremely rare tools, often made by the artisans themselves from organic materials.
