The design of this model recognises Seiko’s history in space – the gradation dial and dual coloured glass bezel are inspired by the skyline view from the International Space station.
In 2008, the Seiko ‘Spring Drive Spacewalk’ watch was made for Richard Garriott – son of the astronaut Owen Garriott and the sixth citizen to travel to space. This 2020 model, inspired by the original, combines both the astronaut-tested Spring Drive movement with ‘stratosphere’ colours and strong looks. Updated from the original, more acute angles amplify the watch’s radiance whilst the centre of gravity is lowered by shape alterations to the side and back of the case. The LX collection is named after Latin ‘Lux’ for light because of the acute angles within the design, refracting light and giving a real brilliance to each surface.
This model incorporates the Spring Drive movement, a watch movement pioneered by Seiko Watch Corporation’s engineers. Spring Drive generates energy like a conventional mechanical watch – with a mainspring – but combines this with an electronic regulator to deliver a superior level of precision, never requiring a battery change.
Seiko Prospex watches are designed for sports lovers and adventure seekers whether in the water, in the sky or on land. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards.
