This timepiece marks the anniversary of the ‘Grand Seiko Style’ – design principles first established with the 44GS model in 1967.
‘Kuuki,’ Japanese for ‘air,’ draws on the brand’s ‘Nature of Time’ philosophy, appreciating every changing moment in the natural flow of time.
The 44GS created a visually recognisable “grammar” of design for Grand Seiko watches to follow – balancing legibility and light with a beautiful recognisable dial layout. Zaratsu polishing is a crucial part of this, through the superlative skills of Takumi craftspeople who practise this difficult art. Every surface of each case is polished by hand, creating a mirror finish.
This watch is powered by the manual-winding mechanical Calibre 9S64, with a power reserve of 72 hours and an accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day.
As a fully integrated watchmaker, Grand Seiko focusses on high precision through in-house technical development.
Between 200 and 300 individual components in each watch are assembled by Takumi artisans adjusting parts by hand to tolerances of one hundredth of a millimetre. This extremely detailed craftsmanship ensures the precise timekeeping delivered by the 9S mechanical movement.
Grand Seiko: beautifully precise Japanese watchmaking, handcrafted by Takumi artisans.
