There are just 140 pieces of this limited-edition Platinum Automatic hi-beat design available globally, created to mark the 140th anniversary of the Seiko Watch Corporation.
Its ‘annual rings’ design is inspired by the interior of a tree – which adds another ring as another year goes by. Commemorating 140 years since Mr Hattori opened his watch and clock repair shop in Tokyo, the rings represent the brand’s constant themes of craftsmanship, innovative design and passion for watchmaking.
This timepiece is from the ‘Series 9’ designs or ‘Kyu’ collection – watches which epitomise the Grand Seiko endeavour to create the most precise, durable, wearable and beautiful watch possible. ‘Kyu’ in Japanese means both 9 – the highest number possible – and ultimate, representing the aim for the ultimate in watchmaking.
Series 9 is a modernised version of the classic 44GS Grand Seiko style. This precise in-house design formula carefully balances light and dark across the dial in a recognisable stylish way to maximise legibility for its wearer.
This watch is powered by the 9SA5 mechanical movement – an entirely new hi-beat mechanical movement with a huge power reserve of 80 hours, all in an even more compact design than previous hi-beats.
Grand Seiko: beautifully, precise Japanese watchmaking, from the pinnacle of Seiko Watch Corporation’s in-house manufacture. Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of Japanese precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted by Takumi artisans.
